Overview
With changing exhibitions, school holiday experiences, unique events and live activities, MOTAT is a great place to explore, discover and spark imaginations. Experience past, present and future technology and ingenuity through interactive exhibitions, stroll through the historic village and enjoy a ride on a heritage tram along the Western Springs Tramway. MOTAT has a broad and extensive collection showcasing the technology and ingenuity of Aotearoa New Zealand. As a family friendly and an intergenerational experience, there is something for all to enjoy. Visit our 2 MOTAT spaces: 805 Great North Rd and the Aviation Hall at 98 Motions Road, all in the heart of the Western Springs Precinct.
Notes for Cardholders
Essential companions are welcome free of charge, on-site parking is available with phone booking, and free wheelchairs are provided for your convenience.
Standing and Queuing
Please present your Hāpai card to our staff, and our front-of-house (FOH) team will assist you by bringing you to the front of the queue. Please kindly note, Live Events and third Sundays tend to be much busier
Level Access
Kindly note that MOTAT Great North Road is a multilevel site with some challenges, including inclines, uneven surfaces, and tram tracks that must be crossed.
Distances
Our building is large, however, there is plenty of seating throughout that you are welcome to use. We have three accessible car parks at Great North Road (already inside the ground) and four accessible car parks at Aviation Hall (20 metres to entrance door). We have five onsite wheelchairs available for you to use which can be booked in advance or speak with one or team when you arrive and they will do their best to assist you.
Urgent Toilet Access
We have eleven standard toilets and three accessible toilets at Great North Road, and four standard toilets and three accessible toilets at Aviation Hall.
Disability Assist Dogs
We comply with the NZ law with respect to Disability Assistance Dogs. The staff will offer you water for your dog and will indicate the nearest place for the dog to relieve itself. We don't have dog bowls but we do have drinking fountains.
Essential Companions
For cardholders with this icon we are happy to offer a free companion ticket. There is no need to book the essential companion. Please give us a call on 0800 668 2869 for any question.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information
Through the Training, the staff are well-informed about adapting their communication and assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision. They can assist you to a seat and guide you a seat / Toilet if required.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information
Through the training that the staff have done with the Hāpai Access Card, they are aware of how they can modify how they communicate with you. This includes making sure you can see their face when speaking, speaking clearly, use of pen and paper and being patient. The staff are aware of the NZ Relay service, so please use this if you think it appropriate when ringing if needed.
Hidden Disabilities
Through the staff's training, they are generally aware of hidden disabilities. Please speak to them about how they can assist in making your time with us extraordinary.
