Overview
Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi | Christchurch City Libraries are all about connecting people, inspiring discovery and enriching communities.
We provide programmes, facilities and resources, so that you can access a world of ideas and imagination. You can use our spaces to study, create, have fun or meet with other people.
Te Kete Wānanga o Ōpāwaho | Spreydon Library is located next to the Barrington Mall, with lovely views of the the Barrington Park.
We have a collection of books, magazines and AV materials for all ages that you are welcome to borrow. Find out more about te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori in Ngā Pounamu Māori and many other cultures in our wider collections.
There are also free computers and there is the ability to scan, copy and print. Our team is here to help you use any or all of our resources although you may just want to sit and relax.
Notes for Cardholders
We can offer concession memberships to Hāpai Access Card Holders which include extended borrowing times and waiving of usual fees associated with our Audio-Visual collections: DVDs, CDS and Talking Book items and certain items for hold requests.
Your support person has free access to any paid activity that you are attending.
Standing and Queuing
We always have staff roving in the library and we are very happy for you to simply approach us or us to come to you. You are welcome to call out or wave to us for help. There are many seating options around the library including close to our main service areas.
Level Access
It is about 25 meters from the closest disabled car park to the main door of the library.
There are two disabled parking spaces situated next to the Barrington Park.
Access to the automated entrance door is at street level, although there is a variation to the floor level in the foyer. A lift gives access to the first floor.
Direct access to the decking at the back of the library is available via a ramp from the Barrington Park side and by a non-automated double door from the library.
This door has a step of about 7cm. The door from the park into the building does allow access for standard size wheelchairs and mobility scooters, however these doors can be very heavy depending on the wind pressure.
Distances
The nearest disabled car park is at street level just north west of the library, about 25 meters away.
Urgent Toilet Access
There is one disabled toilet and one toilet for men and women at the rear, right hand side of the building on the ground floor, this also contains a baby changing table. There are no toilets on the first floor of the building.
Disability Assist Dogs
